An inspection of all the dormitories for Dorm of the Quarter took place on Thursday, July 10 with dorm 623 taking first place and dorm 2266 taking second place. Honorable mention went to dorm 451. The winning dorm received $1,500 for dorm improvements and the runner-up received $1,000.
Dorm 623 and 451 are assigned to the 92nd Aircraft Generation Squadron. The dorm managers are MSgt. David Harding, TSgt. Cathy Baker and SSgt. Donald Ensor. Dorm 2266 is home to the 92nd Supply Squadron and the manager is SSgt. Tammy Bradshaw.
Col. Lawrence Keller, vice wing commander, Lt. Col. Mary Dowmont, deputy director of staff, Maj. Darren Daniels, commander of the operations flight, and CMSgt. Nickey Clark, wing senior enlisted advisor, presided over the inspection.
This inspection is done every three months on a quarterly basis and all the dorms participate in the competition.
Criteria such as upkeep, quality of life improvements, accommodations for single airmen, cleanliness, and special events are judged in inspecting each dorm, said Baker. Winners of each inspection cannot win consecutively, but every dorm participates in each inspection.
"We try to see what areas each dorm has or needs to improve in making living conditions better for our single airmen," said Baker.
According to Baker, barbecues are especially popular with the airmen residing in the dorms. "They do it quite a bit. They bring out the grills and I see them out there at lunch hour and on weekends," she said. "They really enjoy it."
"The whole point of the inspections are to see what kind of areas each dorm has improved on and how well we're taking care of what we have."
